Science communication is a major activity of NAST in enhancing science literacy and promoting public understanding in science and technology in Nepal. NAST has been organizing various promotional activities such as science exhibition, science quiz and Olympiads, essay competitions and science teachers' workshops since its inception in 1982. These programs are organized as complementary to science education. NAST encourages local schools to take initiative in organizing such programs, and has been supporting in the schools specially in rural areas. Beside Kathmandu valley, NAST's popularization campaigns have involved direct participation of over 30 districts already.
