POPULARIZING SCIENCE THROUGH MASS MEDIA

Background
NAST's science popularization program is a humble attempt in making the attributes of science and technology accessible to the general mass and helping to bring attitudinal change in them in favor of modernization. The information on science and technology is disseminated by utilizing existing mass media outlets viz. radio, print and television of the country.
Services
NAST Vigyan Lekhmala
It is a science feature magazine carrying articles on contemporary issues and of tropical interest covering varied sectors like health, environment, agriculture etc. It is supplied to about 100 major newspapers and institutions, the newspapers then publish the articles.
Radio Program
NAST operates its own weekly radio program on science and technology Vigyan Prabidhi in cooperation with national radio and FM radio stations such as Radio Sagarmatha and Kantipur FM. The program is being conducted in radio magazine format. Topical commentaries, interviews with scientists and technologists, project report, science forums are included in the program package.
Television Program
NAST has been producing video programs on indigenous technologies and practices of Nepal to keep their record and preserve entailed knowledge. Recently, NAST has started a regular science program in cooperation with Nepal Television. NAST renders Nepali version of useful science films for Nepali society and also produces its own for transmission.
Meet Your Scientist
Meet Your Scientist is an interaction forum for scientists to explain to media persons on new findings and/or on contemporary subjects of public concern related to science and technology such as epidemic, policy issues, pollution havoc etc.
Seminar and Workshops
NAST organizes seminar and workshops for scence communicators, authors, reports and broadcasters to enhace their S & T communication capability.
