Academy of Science and Technology and Central
Department of Physics, Tribhuvan University
had jointly organized a 12 day Autumn School
of Physics on New Material from Oct. 28-Nov.
8, 2007 in Kathmandu.
The School was inaugurated
by the Minister for Environment, Science and
Technology. Mahant Thakur. In the inaugural
address, Minister Thakur said that the country’s
development was only possible with the development
of science and technology and the new democratic
government shall be ever committed to build
an environment conducive to such a development.
Speaking on the occasion,
NAST Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Hom Nath Bhattarai
expressed his opinion that these sort of programs
would contribute to the higher studies. Further,
Nepal needed a research center for appropriate
technology so NAST is working towards establishing
a national level research center. Since this
is the Silver Jubilee year of NAST, he urged
the scientific community to suggest future
directions.
Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan
University, Prof. Dr. Madhav Sharma suggested
that our country and society had not given
adequate importance to science and technology.
Therefore there is a need of more investment
for research and development of the country.
NAST Secretary, Prof. Dr.
Dilip Subba proposed the vote of thanks.
The School was lectured by
various resources persons from India, Japan,
Bangladesh and Nepal. Thirty five physicists
from different institutions were participated
in the school.
